Nami Island

Nami Island, one of the places to visit in Korea is a half-moon-shaped island floating in the Han River in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do about 50 kilometres from Seoul. The island is characterized by the absence of telephone poles – as electric wires are all laid underground, revealing stunning natural scenery. The whole area covers 430,000 square metres and is teeming with its unique beauty that changes every season.

Things to do in Nami Island

There are a lot of picturesque spots on the island so expect to see travellers snapping photos everywhere! The key here is to find the right spot with fewer people so you can take that perfect shot. Some popular spots are the following: old rail tracks, the famous central Korean Pine Tree Lane, Gingko Tree Lane, Riverside Paths and of course, the Winer Sonata Statue.

Throughout Nami Island, a book station will be set up randomly, with various books on it for reading. It is good to read a book carefully under such circumstances or to play tired and picnic under a tree.

Where to eat

It’s not a complete holiday in Korea without trying some of the country’s finest food offerings! And one of these yummy treats is hotteok, a famous Korean red bean pancake. It’s a great snack to munch on while strolling around the island or you can find a spot and enjoy the freshly made pancake with friends!

If you’re looking for lunch options, head over to Yeonga Lunch Box which serves Korean-style lunch box called “dosirak”. It’s one of the cheapest but tastiest food you can find on the island!

Meanwhile, inside the Baplex Building, you’ll find Book Café a quaint café with a variety of food and drinks. Perfect place to grab a warm cup of coffee on a winter day or an ice cold beverage for a hot summer day! Another must-try is Snow Café where you can find the cutest snowmen statues and the famous snowman bread.

Shopping

There are many places on the island where souvenirs are sold. Although they are not the same as other Korean shopping markets, there are still interesting souvenirs to buy here. Talented hand-crafted local artists and experienced craftsmen masters make some of the souvenirs which are great to take back home or as gifts to friends and family!

Where to stay in Nami Island

Although it is often a day trip location, some travellers actually decide to stay on the island overnight and enjoy the night view. How to get to Nami Island

From Seoul, you can either take the subway or bus to get to Nami Island. If you choose the subway, take the Gyeongchun Line and get off at Gapyeong Station then ride the local bus or taxi to Nami Island Pier. From the pier, take the boat to the island. If you’re coming here by bus, you can directly get off at Nami Island Pier then take the boat to the island.
