After-MICE Hours: Splurge-Worthy Alcohol Workshops in Singapore
It is no secret that alcohol tax in Singapore is one of the highest in the world. This explains why you will see many Singaporeans purchasing their alcohol at the duty-free store in the airport. Despite this, there are several alcohol workshops in Singapore that will give you a bang for your buck. Not only are these workshops enjoyable for all, but they are also the perfect post-MICE itinerary to allow your delegates to unfold.
TIGER BEER FACTORY TOUR
Singapore’s very own homegrown beer, Tiger Beer, has its factory located at the western end of the island. This brewery is open for tours 6 days a week, with 5 different sessions daily. Tour scripts in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese are also available in the event that your delegates are not native English speakers.
First up, visitors can expect to learn more about the illustrious history and heritage of this Singapore beer brand at the visitor centre. They will then visit the brewhouse where the water, malt, hops, and yeast come together. In addition to Tiger Beer, this brewery also produces 5 other beers locally. Can you guess which? (Scroll down for the answers!)
You and your delegates will next adjourn to the packaging gallery where you will be able to have a close-up view of the beer packaging process. After which, you will be treated to a beer-tapping demonstration and even try your hand at tapping your own beer! Retreat to the Tiger Tavern where you can enjoy your icy cold glass of beer amidst rich wood and leather furnishings that exude an old-school charm. You will also be able to sample the other 5 beers brewed at this factory; ABC, Anchor, Barons Strong Brew, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, and Heineken.

GIN AND TONIC MASTERCLASS
Another one-of-a-kind alcohol workshops in Singapore would be this gin and tonic pairing masterclass. Hosted by cheeky little bar Spiffy Dapper, this masterclass will teach you the history and science that goes behind a gin and tonic in Singapore.
While the gin and tonic duo is not uncommon, not many know that this ubiquitous pairing actually started off in the jungles of Malaya. This workshop will then give an in-depth explanation as to how popularity took this drink further and further away from its roots.
Theory aside, you and your delegates will also get to taste numerous combinations of gin and tonic. With three different styles of gin and five different types of tonic water, you will get a taste of each and decide on your preferred. The bartender will then take your favourites and turn it into a personalised drink for you. Lastly, you will have a selection of botanicals to choose from for your gin and tonic garnish.
If that sounds like a lot of alcohol, that’s because it actually is. By the end of this workshop, you would have consumed roughly seven standard drinks or 225ml. But do not worry as you will be served food from Spiffy Dapper’s food menu during the course of the workshop to line your stomach.
Address: 73 Amoy Street, Second Floor, Singapore 069892
Masterclass Timings: Mondays – Saturdays | 6pm

WINE AND CHEESE TASTING
Ordering a glass of red wine to go with your Rib-Eye is almost second nature in a fine dining restaurant. Yet, to truly be able to carry yourself in a formal restaurant, you will need to know how to appreciate the wine’s aroma as well. In this 2-hour relaxing evening session by the French Cellar, you will be guided through an interactive session to learn more about the art of wine drinking.
Armed with an elaborate kit of 54 aromas, you will learn to identify the aromas of various wines. If you are wondering what types of wine will be served, you will be able to have a taste of four specially selected French wines; Sparkling, Rosé, and two Reds.
This wine and cheese pairing in Singapore wouldn’t be complete without some cheese. You will be treated to three different kinds of exquisite French cheeses; Brie, Camembert, and Chèvre. At the end of these 2 hours, you will be sure to learn the art of wine drinking and all its intricacies.
Address: 10 Penang Road, #01-02, Dhoby Ghaut Green, Singapore 238469
