Korea Travel Guide: How to Spend Your Summer in Busan
Busan, a vibrant city that has it all, full of charisma and rich in culture, yet still able to maintain in being the second most populous city after Seoul. It might just be the perfect location for a summer vacation. Check out how you can spend your summer at Busan!
1. Beaches, Bikinis, Beauties
Summer isn’t complete without beaches and tequilas, the city of Busan has plenty of it. Despite having a massive coastline, there are only 6 official beaches in Busan. Haeundae beach is the one that top amongst the rest.
Most tourist would prefer to go Haeundae beach during summer for its laid back atmosphere in a bustling city. You could rent an inner tube, toss a Frisbee, get a suntan or walk along the beach shore in a sunny evening. Who knows? Maybe you will be able to find your one true love over there~
2. Seafood Sensation
If you haven’t tried on a still-wiggling squid on a hot plate, then you haven’t tried on the real fresh seafood. Busan being a coastal city gave you an advantage in getting some of the cheapest and freshest seafood.
Not only tourist praised on their seafood, but locals as well, as you can feast on seafood that freshly caught and brought from the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Simply tasty and De-li-cious!
3. Cultural and Heritage
Though Busan might be a Metropolitan city that hustles and bustles as always, they still have rich cultural and historic heritage sites that lie within the city. You can find temples such as Seongbuk Temple and Haedong Yonggungsa (the Water Temple) lies within the mountains and coastal sides.
There is also Gamcheon Cultural Village, where houses are built like a staircase-fashion on the foothills of the coastal mountain, earning them a nickname of “Machu Pichu of Busan” or more likely the “Santorini of Busan”
4. Shopping Spree
For those who are a fan of shopping, Busan has several globally well-known shopping malls that could let you on loose for a shopping spree! They have malls such as Lotte Department Store and Centum Shinsegae Department Store.
Do stop by at the Busan Cinema Center if there happens to be a Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) happening to catch a glimpse of your favourite actors and actresses. Marvel at the outstanding architecture of the building, with a skateboard-like rooftop that catches the eyeballs.
5. Spectacular Night View
During the night, you could take a selfie under the sparkling lights of the Gwangalli Bridge, where it illuminates the dark and brightens up the city. The scenic view looks somewhat similar as if you are in Hong Kong.
You could also travel to Dongbaek Island and gaze over the Gwangalli Bridge night view, simply amazing. On the other side of Dongbaek Island, you could also have a wonderful sight of the Haeundae beach and the skyscrapers nearby.
6. Fun, Festival, Fiesta
During summer in Busan, there are 2 important festivals that you should definitely be in and experience what the city has to offer. First off will be the Busan Sea Festival. This annual event was held at the six beaches of Busan, including Haeundae, Gwangalli, Dadaepo, Songdo, and Songjeong Beaches. Many concert, art performances, and competitions are being held here.
Then we have the Busan International Rock Festival, where you could feel the passionate fever of rock music and the heat of the beach, all at the same time. Immerse yourself into the soulful rock performances by bands or artist worldwide and jammed with them together!
